Celestial Ox - ruff animation

So we are in the last stretch of this year, which means - final leg of production on our Group Film "The Celestial Ox"! I am in the midst of cleaning up my ruff animation, which will then be coloured frame by frame and composited with the backgrounds to be put into the final film.

Here are my scenes a la ruff animation.
Stay tuned for the final film, to be completed by the middle of April!

"Limitless"

Acrylic and marker on canvas; 12" x 24"

My friend Tricia in 4th year asked me about a month ago if I would like to donate a piece of art to go into a charity art auction, with the proceeds going towards an organization she is working with called Impact Africa. I love, love, love what this was all about and was totally on board right away. [a great excuse to paint, sign me up!] Here's the piece I came up with.

I named it Limitless because of a quote I found and decided to design the painting around it:

“Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless.” - Jamie Paolinetti

And now... back to cleaning up my animation!!

Caffe-teria

Yesterday in life drawing, Bobby moved our regular class from the model room, to the cafeteria. Time to caricature our fellow Sheridan-ites! Always good times.... my fav was the lady at the top. I dub her Eleanor. I believe she was posing just for moi. :)

It's called "Skinny Legs & Sweaters"

Here's a quick concept [with 2 colour palettes] of the intro of my 4th year film. I am looking forward to a lot more time this summer to develop the style, characters, story, etc.... but I am excited to make a fun, old-fashioned cartoon!

I thought of the name about a year a half ago and the story developed from there.
Stay tuned, summer 2009!

Retro yearbook page

For this year's Sheridan Yearbook [all the Animation students get a page to showcase their work in a yearly Animation Yearbook], I decided to do something a bit more fun.

I normally would just throw some of my drawings/sketches on a white background, but when I was at the gym a few days ago [where I seem to think of a lot of interesting idears!], I thought of doing something like this! I know if I saw this sorta thing in a big book o' drawings, it would catch my eye. I hope it catches yours!

Herbert's Hijinks

So when I finished this on Thursday night, I realized that this is longer than my film needs to be next year! And I did this in a couple days. Yeesh.

Well, this idear was a collaboration between Tams and I - it's funny what comes to you when you are relaxing in a coffee shop! :) This is a short animation purely based on musical cues. No other audio. It was great fun to envision what each musical cue might do for the story beats.

I love this piece by Saint-Saens, entitled "Pianistes" [from the Carnival of Animals suite] - and to me, it sounded like it would be about a bird named Herbert.
Enjoy!
