Beak ruff animation

PHEW, my second last animation for this year. And the one after this is just a clean-up animation of this one. SO....if I didn't like these drawings the first time around, I am sure as heckfire gonna love 'em the second time around when I have to draw every minute detail with a mechanical pencil.

I am happy with this one though, Napoleon's line was WAY more fun to work with - such ticked off energy, gotta love it. I think my fav is the shaking fists. It makes me happy.

Now....me gotta sleep.

Reel thoughts

Phew!
It's been a looong week.

And I'm in for about 4 more crazy ones!!

I just finished doing a quick website for my Film History journal assignment. I thought that'd be more fun [and easy for me!] than doing some cut and paste job. My scrapbooking skillz are nil to none.

It's just a simple design, and I had to do it from start to finish in 2 evenings, so it's no masterpiece!! But I am happy with it.

Hopefully soon I will post my zoo drawings!!

Page fer da yearbook

This is a page of my work that I threw together [almost literally threw!] last night to be included in this year's Sheridan Yearbook.

Yearbook, as in, a book of all the animator's art, not so much peeps in grad hats and geeky haircuts. [Although....that would make an EXCELLENT caffe drawing!]

For a fee, we are allotted a grayscale page in the book with whatever artwork we choose to best represent our skillz. The book is for 2nd, 3rd and 4th yr Animation peeps... then they send out the book to all the studios. It's just a good opp to get yer name out there.

It's tough to pick stuff that translates really well in black and white, but I tried me best!
Rock and roll!

Zoo pics galore!

We finally made it to the Toronto Zoo on Thursday [YAY!!], and even though it was rather nippy, we managed to see a lot of awesome animals!

Tams and I met a fun young dude named Dan at lunchtime who worked at the zoo, and he offered to take us "behind the scenes" at the pavilion he worked at. OBVIOUSLY, this would mean prime pics for future drawings, so how could we say no?! As you can see from one of the above pics, I wasn't aware he meant "risk your life with this large snake and poisonous gila monster I shall wave in front of your face"... but it was worth it! We got to see a 3-week old baby monkey get fed up close, so that was definitely worth the price of admission!

Besides the tour, my FAV were the orangutans! They are awesome!! I could have sat and drew them all day. [Why can't Winnipeg Zoo have orangutans??? I must have a talk with them this summer....]

Sketches to come!

Life Drawrings...now in colour!

So, right now I am in the midst of a clean-up animation.

Clean-up animation.... it ain't easy, folks.
For instance....I spent what seemed to be the better part of the evening [oh look, it's now midnight] cleaning up a grand total of 8 drawings.

8.

Eight.

I have only...ONLY...109 to go.

Um, should I jump RIGHT into the straight jacket now, or wait for the little red pills to kick in??

Did I mention this is supposed to be due on Thursday?

Yeah, uh huh, THAT ain't a-gonna happen.

ANYHOO.
I digress. [For now.]

I am uploading some fun life drawrings from last week....we are doing costumes AND colour - and what could possibly be more fun than that??? I had fun doing these ones. It's so easy to let loose with the NuPastel....[something ELSE you cannot do with clean-up animation!!]... I especially enjoy the first one, as you can easily picture him saying, "A mamma-mia, a-pizza-pie-aah!". I think these are all 5 minutes....ish.

The only thing getting me through this clean-up animation is our zoo trip on Thursday. YAY I get to draw animals!!!

Me excited.
Stay tuned.

Gamblin' in Grover Gulch....storyboard

I finally stopped for a few minutes so I could post this puppy... our storyboard assignment that was due today. [Luckily the due date was pushed back from Friday, ack!!!]

This assignment differed from last term's, in that we had to board a scene/sequence in a story, rather than an entire story. [phew!] Still, it took a while. This board may have been slightly shorter, but we were required to do waaaaaaaaaayyyy more research.

We had to choose between 3 themes - Western, Medieval, Victorian.
I chose Medieval.
Just kidding....just checking to see who actually reads my jabber!!

No, to my parent's avail, I chose Western. [Thanks Mom for the story idears!!]
And we had to include a stagecoach.
Stinkin' stagecoach, like THAT'S easy to draw!

Anyhoo, enough ramble...I gotta start my clean-up animation due Thursday.
Aaaaaaaaaack.

Git along, little doggy.

I still love gouache.

I was going through my paintings from last year.... I really miss the "analog painting", what with all our fancified "digi painting" skillz we are acquiring. I kinda hate becoming so dependent on Cmd-Z [yes, that's right, I said COMMAND not CONTROL!!].... 'sides, there's not many more relaxing things to do than put on some good tunes and paint an eve away.

Oh sweet summer evenings....come hither. I shalt paint til my heart's delight.....

Or at least for a good couple hours, deadline-free.
And really, that's all I'm asking for.

Anyway, this is a layout from Lilo & Stitch. A GREAT 2D film, absolutely boo-tiful; they seemed to return to more of a watercolour-ish style in that film, reminiscent of earlier classics like Pinocchio and the like.

Yeah, the colours in this one just seem to sing. Me loves it. [Kudos to the original artist, wowza.] I was just happy to be able to replicate it in any sort of pleasurable fashion.

Me enjoy it.
So in conclusion....me loves gouache.

Testing the waters.

I randomly drew this chick one evening last week...I have been dying to try out these watercolour pencil crayon thingers I got.... so here's my first experiment.

She's kinda downtrodden.
And has attitude.
Her name is Jordyn.
Mmm-hmm.

I think these should be fun for future caffe drawings, just to block in some quick colour and get a nice watercolour-y look. Without the whole half hour set up of the paints. [Bonus!]

I'm still getting used to how they work and blend, but it's fun to keep changing up the media and not just stick with JUST a col-erase....or JUST a tablet either.

Yeesh.

Although I wouldn't say no to one uh them Cintiq's.....whoo baby....
Oops, I'm drooling.

Performance Acting, starring Pixie-Lou.

Here is the second scenario with Pixie-Lou.

She's also from last year.

She may be a farm girl, but she don't like no frogs.

Enough said.

Follow along again to see if the images make sense.

My fav pose is the last one - I always feel like I run like that in my dreams.
Hmm...maybe it's just me... :)

Performance Acting, starring Hank.

This is Hank.

He's simple.

And he loves cake.

I designed him last year for Char Design and decided to revive him for our latest Char Design assignment [due Monday].

We were assigned two scenarios we had to then act out with two of our own characters.

Follow the images down to see if they make sense to you as a sequence.

Perhaps I'll post scenario two lata.
