Petsecure - cats are chill :)

Here is the third poster I did for Petsecure, starring the cat character. I had fun with this one, since we have 2 cats, and I know many of their ridiculously cute positions!

Here are a few super rough sketches I did to get an idea of placement....

After the client chose which one they liked best, I did a bit cleaner rough...

Then did a rough colour pass to show the client....

And here is the final! Yay!

Petsecure - at the vet!

This was the first poster I was commissioned to do for Petsecure, featuring the new pets I had redesigned for them. They wanted the first one to have both pets, going for a visit to the vet.

New pets for Petsecure!

So much of what I work on at the studio I am not allowed to share. Which is sad, cuz it's super fun. BUT, it motivates me to create other projects and art that I CAN share!

This newest project is for a company called Petsecure - a large company focused on insuring your pets. Having two cats, I understand that your pets are like family!

What a fun project this is shaping up to be. I first did a one-off redesign of their two pet ambassadors Ruff & Tumble - pictured above - which led to doing a series of 3 posters starring Ruff & Tumble! I have just completed the posters, and will post them soon, but thought I would post this first!

I love doing fun projects!

Poncho = cape.

Another great line [which turned into a drawring] from one o' my favs, "Modern Family", back in Season 1. Gloria is talking to Jay about Manny wanting to wear his poncho to school, and she says to him "A poncho is just a cape that goes all the way around!"

[Insert loud chuckle here!]

Painted panda.

Fiddling around in Flash, trying to paint like I am in Photoshop. 'Tis tricky, but always fun to try new things in a totally different style than my usual....

One week Sunday!!!

It's been a long and winding, yet beautiful, journey with the one I truly love with my entire being by my side. To be her wife will to make me the happiest, most fulfilled and thankful woman in the world. I can't wait to wake up every morning and look at that ring on my finger. I am humbled and in awe of all that real love can do :)

The K-King's Sp-Speech.

By making "pun" of the title of this film, I am in no way making fun of the subject matter. I absolutely loved this film, and the relationship that develops between Lionel Logue and The King. I am fascinated by true stories, and especially when those stories can encourage and teach us all a little something about not giving up.

The Oscars are a favorite time of year for me -- so this year I am gonna attempt to sketch my interpretations of the top 10 Best Picture noms.

1 down, 9 to go!

Bowling mishaps.

So, myself and a few friends decided we should go good old-fashioned bowling last Friday - with REAL pins and balls, not just on the Wii! So we ventured out, donned a fresh pair of glowing bowling shoes, and got our 10-pin on!

However, not everyone knew that my middle name was "Gimpy". Yes, Stacey Gimpy Chomiak, that is me! I did my first frame fine, threw the ball down the alley or whatever it's called, but for SOME reason, the next frame, I COMPLETELY forgot how to bowl!

I kept grasping the ball with only 2 fingers, and every time I went to throw it, it just fell out of my hand! Then I topped myself - I accidentally hurled it backwards into the path of this elderly gentleman in the alley next to us... all the while my 3 friends behind me were scared for their lives and YET laughing their heads off!! Tams then yelled "STACE, put your THUMB in the HOLE!!"

Oh. Right. I knew it felt wrong!

I couldn't resist sketching the moment.

I am very glad I could provide a good portion of the entertainment :)
Onto the next adventure! Thanks for a good time Gals!

"Lily, I'm gonna break the windddooooowwww!!"

ABC's "Modern Family" is, in my opinion, one of the funniest shows currently on TV right now. Not often does a show make you literally laugh out loud - and this one does in every episode! Each character is so well developed - and stinkin' hilarious. I was lucky enough to get the first season on DVD for Christmas, and watching some of the episodes again inspired me to start a series of sketches based on some of the memorable scenes.

This one is one of my favorites, from Season 1, Episode 2 "Run For Your Wife".

If you know the show, I hope you appreciate the sketch!!

I can't wait to do more!! Stay tuned.

I triple-dog dare you!

Doing caricatures from Xmas movies just got a lot funner. Yes, funner. Here is the first half of the "A Christmas Story" cast, all coloured and in their fashion. See below for an enlarged version of each character; Ralphie is shown in the previous post. More coloured leg lamp fun to come!

The Soul Striders

Here's a quick little logo job I did a couple days ago for our church's dragonboat team.

Go Striders!

UPDATE: The race was this past Sunday, Sept 13, 2010, and the team did a great job! Here's a couple photos from the event!

Kids book idear: "Sometimes...."

One late evening, [when most of my creative concoctions are born], I had some ramblings bouncing around my head, so I typed them into the only thing in arms reach, my blackberry notepad app. I thought it might make a fun kids book. The idea comes from the thought of how kids imagination's think up random wonderfulness.

Above is the proposed main character for this book. [below is the rough sketch]
Stay tuned for a couple pages to come....!

It's not about white elephants.

14' x 8' ish , gouache on 140 lb watercolour paper

The original sketch, it was like the 15th one to finally set it up right.

For Character's in Western Culture class [our only elective], we had to pick a piece of literature from the course pack, and illustrate a scene. Then we present our illustration and explain it, which is what I will be doing on Tuesday.

Anyhoo, since we are so busy with all the film jazz, I took this opportunity to paint, yay! I hadn't touched my brushes since the summer....sadness. Everything has been from the digital world. I need tangibility! [It's a word.]

The piece I chose is by Hemingway, called 'Hills Like White Elephants'. But after reading it, it ain't about no white elephants! It's basically about these 2 people and their conversation. Here's my interpretation!

TerraFrog Clothing Corp.

The concept sketches

The final artwork

This is probably my biggest freelance job that I've been working on since coming home from school. I didn't post anything earlier due to trademark issues, but my lovely client gave me the go-ahead to post away. It's been great fun working on this job, I wanted to share :)

Here's the low-down:

> A client hired me to design two logos for her new yoga-inspired clothing company, called TerraFrog Clothing Corp.

> I did a sketch per her request to do a cartoony-ish frog, sitting in a yoga position on the earth, and to come up with a smaller logo that will go on the clothing

> The crawling dude is what will go on the clothing, and the other one [we named him Norman] goes on everything else... water bottles, tshirts, business cards....etc

It took a while for me to convert the sketches to the exact kind of vector logos I wanted. So [for all you artistes out there] I sketched them in col-erase, then traced over them in Sketchbook Pro [to get the thick and thin], then converted those to vector in Illustrator. I had to do a lot of finicky playing around with the lines to get them just right, but it always looks so nice once it's done.

It also took a while to figure out the right colours and font... but here are the finals as far as right now. It'll be exciting to see some actual clothing samples!

Check out the TerraFrog line at www.terrafrog.com!

In conclusion, frogs are fun :)

Mo' life drawrin'

Yeah.

It's Week 12, and I don't even know which way I am going anymore!! Pant...pant....3...more...weeks...to...go.....!!

Just finished my massive Western character design assignment... [which I practically killed myself to finish for today...and when I got to class I found out it was extended 'til Friday. Egad!!!].....

ANYHOO, I shall post those when I have some coloured up, I wanna spend some time on finishing them with colour and such, esp since I busted my butt on the designs and poses.

In the meanwhile [my new word of the day], here are a few life drawings from this past week. I think some of these might make my final portfolio [due this Thursday!!]. The first 3 are 30 secs, the last 2 are 5 minutes. Takes me a while to get into the colour frame of mind, but it's so nice when experimenting works!

On a different note - I love Spring in Oakville! No snow left for quite a while now, and we have enjoyed walking to Tims for coffee....aahhhh....any snow left in the Peg?

Ah, spring has sprung :)
